Country Song

I was sitting at my desk job working real hard when an old memory somehow came back in the midst of the symphony of synaptic action prompted by an approaching deadline. When I was twelve and my parents were getting divorced in the 80's, my mom told me that my dad was writing letters with some country singer in Nashville. I managed to find the letters in our library, where my dad slept until he moved out of our house. They were sealed with kisses and spritzed with, probably, Stetson, or something comparable. They were nice, but polite, inviting my dad to Nashville to visit, talking of artistic inspiration and other expected topics. A few years later, I asked my mom about it, and pleased, she said the singer was too famous now to keep in touch with my dad. And it left my memory like that. And it came back like that. And now when I sing 1980's country music at the karaoke bar, I'm going to wonder each time who it was, and I'll never ask and I'll never find out, and I'll wonder which song about her was maybe about my mom.
